This week on The Wrap, Business First Editor Doug Buchanan and I spend some time talking about ice cream, pizza, casinos, beaches, cannabis and fintech.
That’s quite a lineup.
We start out with news that Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and Dolly Parton have paired up to sell a sweet strawberry ice cream named for the singer. Proceeds will help Parton’s literacy nonprofit that provides books to kids around the world.
We also talk about the deal that Mikey’s Late Night Slice signed with Hollywood Casino Columbus, to sell the pies inside the gambling mecca. Pepperoni and poker? Slots and sausage? You bet.
The talk goes from food to flight, with the news that United Airlines is going to have direct flights from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to Charleston and Hilton Head Islands in South Carolina as well as Portland, Maine.
Good news for vacationers, for sure.
We move on to medical marijuana and new figures from the state that show some 176,000 people are registered in Ohio to buy cannabis. In a little more than a year, Ohioans have spent $338 million on the stuff.
And finally, we wrap things up with news that another Silicon Valley fintech startup is making Columbus its second headquarters. This one is called Huckleberry and it will be run by a veteran of Root Insurance, which also has created quite the stir in town.
Make sure you tune in each week to The Wrap, where the news always is fresh.
